Ľudovít Fulla is one of the most influential fine artists of the 20th century in Slovakia whose work had a profound influence on the development of Slovak modern art. In Birdland, he used simple lines, that are very reminiscent of gingerbread decorations, to portray human figures, country buildings (the central building is probably a mill), fruit-bearing trees and various birds. The birds consist of various geometrical shapes that might reference cubism and collages, but also mosaics and colourful stained glass used for decorating sacral buildings. Fulla seemed to have breathed life into the birds by using bright red, blue, green and yellow colours.
