I Am Not Here, I Am in Arcadia

Publication serves as an accompanying and documentary part of Mária Janušová’s curatorial project titled I Am Not Here, I Am in Arcadia that was held in the Representative Halls of Nitra Gallery between May 17 and August 26, 2018. The idea and theme of the exhibition were constructed in a way that reflected the internal, poetic world of the artists. It was presented on an example of seventeen Slovak artists whose creative work is dated from the late 19th century to the present. Some of them included Slovak most important artists, such as Anton Jasusch, Edmund Gwerk, Július Koller or Stano Filko.

Catalogue contains an extended version of the curatorial text that describes the Nitra Gallery’s exhibition in great detail so it could be imagined and understood even by someone who did not have a chance to visit it in person. The initial explanation of its concept, goals, sources of inspiration and theme division is followed by chapters that cover the actual theme sections and presented artworks. The final part of the publication contains short artist biographies as it was their stories, personalities and work that made the exhibition happen. All of the texts are accompanied by rich image material depicting the installations as well as the actual presented artworks.
