Maximilián Schurmann (1890 – 1960)

According to contemporary art literature, Maximilian Schurmann, the painter, draughtsman and graphic artist, can be considered as a significant figure in Slovak art history. He most consistently applied the techniques of impressionism. He was influenced in his work by his father, Raimund von Wichera and by his professors at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He mainly expressed himself in portraits and figurative work, with the interest in landscapes developing later.
