The monographic exhibition by a Czech photographer, painter and performer Veronika Šrek Bromová is the largest monographic exhibition that has ever been held at our scene. The “All About Verona?” project presents many of her pieces that feature her work with body and corporeity. It covers some of her already iconic works of the 1990s, all the way to her latest implementations related to her life at the “Chaos” settlement. The presented works date back to the artist’s various creative periods. They focus mainly on the optical perception of “body art” and offer an opportunity to understand and observe strong feminine changes in a female artist.
She intertwines her rough body work aesthetics with various dreamy, mystical and mythological allegories about herself. The artist’s work clearly delivers a message from a woman about womanhood – women – for women – for men – about men. Her main focus is on herself, (self)stylisation, (self)portrait, while incorporating various media forms. One could say that Veronika Šrek Bromová’s work is on par with world-famous artists, such as Cindy Sherman, Orlan, Pierre et Gilles, Gilbert ang George or Catherine Opie.
“All About Verona?” describes the work of an artist who uses both external and internal chaos (that we all live in, live through, while we keep looking, searching) to reveal her desire for inner freedom and beauty.
Veronika Šrek Bromová (1966) studied at J. Šalamoun’s Studio of Printmaking at AAAD in Prague (1987 -1993). She taught at AFA in Prague where she led the Digilab (2001) and at the New Media School at AFA in Prague (2002-2011). She has held many exhibitions both at home and abroad. For example, she represented the Czech Republic at the Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy (1999). She has attended various psychotherapeutic trainings and workshops. She lives at the Chaos settlement at Czech Vysočina [Highlands Region].
