Invitation

For the upcoming summer holiday season 2023, Nitra Gallery has prepared an exclusive ultra all inclusive last minute voyage around the sea – that’s right, not around the world, but around the sea! You will have eleven weeks to explore all of the seas and oceans on Earth!

You will sea works by over thirty artists whose paintings, prints and drawings have been fished up out of Nitra Gallery’s depositories and laid right onto the sunny azure shores of our Representative Halls, in some cases for the first time. This crew is joined by external tour guides – six contemporary artists with poetic, humorous, personal, ecological or documentary interpretations of sea motifs in their video works and an installation created specially for this occasion. For the demanding, weather-beaten old sea dogs, we have an extra bonus: the first conceptual painting of the sea in the world!

You can make your stay even more pleasant with a wide selection of optional trips: you will be able to relax on the most beautiful beaches, visit the safest havens, try out various sailboats, steamships or dories, listen to the sounds of the sea, analyze the classical love triangle boy/man/old man and the sea, deep dive into a sea of fish and visit the Queen of Adriatic. You can even find out what it would look like if our inland country would finally have its own sea dream come true.

The tour package includes eighty different depictions of seas and oceans by artists from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria-Hungary from the late 19th century until today. And if it were not enough, you can think of a sea of your own thanks to a text by the author Monika Kompaníková (sorry, in Slovak language only).

What is left to say? The dictionary defines sea as a large area of salt water that is partly or completely surrounded by land, but we all know that sea is more… and there is more to see than that…
