Besides projects and activities related to fine art, Nitra Gallery also opens its premises to other, non-fine-art media. One of these projects is a series of debates with contemporary Slovak authors that Nitra Gallery started back in 2006. All of the debates in the previous years were moderated by the popular host Dado Nagy.

The autumn series will present a trio of interesting authors. The debates will take place at the County House Concert Hall.

Autumn Debates Schedule: 

September 29, 2022, 5pm — Lukáš Onderčanin 

Lukáš Onderčanin (1990) is a Slovak journalist. He has been working at the daily newspaper SME as a foreign affairs political correspondent since 2014. He has graduated from Comenius University in Bratislava in journalism, but also studied at the University of Warsaw in Poland. He has also previously worked as an editor of the MONO.sk online magazine and he is the editor in chief of the quarterly publication Tales of the 20th Century, published by the Post Bellum civic association. He has been nominated three times for the Journalism Award before winning the Open Society Award in 2021 for his report on the freedom of media in Hungary. His book debut is a documentary novel titled Utópia v Leninovej záhrade: Československá komúna Interhelpo [Utopia in Lenin’s Garden: Czechoslovak Commune Interhelpo]. [1]

October 13, 2022, 5pm — Jana Micenková 

She graduated from the University of Prešov in Slovak Language and Literature and then from FAMU in Scriptwriting and Dramaturgy. In 2013, she founded an independent theatre ensemble in Prague called Nekroteatro where she still works as a playwright and director. For her Nekrogames theatre play, she received the Slovak Literary Fund Award for the best dramatic text in 2013; and also the VEJK AP 2012 award for young playwrights. Her Nekrogames short story won the Short Story 2012 competition. Her novel Najkrajšie roky [The Best Years] won the jury award in the DEBUT 2012 literary competition. Her debut, a collection of short stories Sladký život [Sweet Life] (2017) finished in the top ten of the Anasoft litera award. Her second book, a novel titled Krv je len voda [Blood Is Just Water], published in 2021, is also nominated for the Anasoft litera 2022 award. [2]

November 16, 2022, 5pm — Mirka Ábelová

In 2009, she graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Comenius University in Bratislava in journalism. In 2010, she won the Rudolf Fabry Award. Her first published work was a part of a short story anthology titled Sólo pre 9 hlasov [Solo for 9 Voices] in 2011, which is when she also published her own collection of poems titled Striptíz [Striptease]. In 2012, she won the main award in the Asseco Solutions Poems competition for her Niečo originálne [Something Original] series of poems. In 2014, she published a collection of poems Na! [Here!], in 2016, another collection of poems titled Básničky pre domáce paničky [Rhymes for Housewives]. In 2018, she came up with a collection called Večný pocit nedele [It Always Feels Like Sunday]. She hosts Radio_FM’s ten-minute poetry-focused show called Sunday Moment of Poetry. [3]
