The Slovak artist Daniela Chrienová (born in 1984) will be presenting her latest series of paintings named Imperfect Pictures of Perfection in the Nitra Gallery Salon. This is her third solo exhibition. The Academy of Fine Arts in Banská Bystrica graduate (studio of Stanislav Balko) devotes herself primarily to the observation of various types of pictures in contemporary visual environments and their effects within various semantic levels. In her own way the artist reflects the conventionally accepted values and stereotypes that form her. In the framework of her art program, she recreates photographs by painting them on canvas. As her original motif she uses photographs which she creates based on advertising spaces of her choice, or according to a certain scheme from internet videos or TV. In this sense she is also interested in the phenomena of static and moving images, as well as “the repeated materialisation of a dematerialised image” – photographs in the forms of paintings. She used this artistic principle in a few of her previous series named Window (2007) and Pause (2009).
In her newest presented oil painting collection from the period 2010 – 2015, the author points out the current trend of promoting the cult of the human body, beauty and perfection. She demonstrates this idea by the means of repainted photographs which were made from appropriated originals in the form of advertisement posters, billboards and banners from an urban environment and from advertisement videos on the internet. Chrienová introduces her artistic repainting of the original material in the form of photos – often fragmented, deformed or partially covered and torn out of their original contexts – in a new context.
