“Any suggestion of a firm ground is dissolved in total chaos, in schizophrenia of infinite numbers of possible interpretations. The wondrous freedom also means that the world where things have their names becomes the world where anytime anything can have an entirely new name. And that is only a fraction of a catastrophe because the names themselves constantly change their meanings and the shape of things as well. Being in such a place can be totally devastating. Consistent consciousness does not have a chance. It dissolves like a snowflake in a palm, it corrodes from acids. And thus we have approached a mind without an image, a mind that is prepared for an encounter.” (Pavla Sceranková)
Anna Balážová presents her artistic project Tak? A nebo tak? (This Way? Or That Way?) in a miniature gallery 1k15. It is a presentation of an independent gallery. It hosts another gallery. There are many ways how to introduce what a viewer will encounter at an exhibition. Each of them can be correct. They are, however, always subjective and never exhaustive.
“The exhibition is a game pointing out to limits of ways out. The viewers are offered a show and are incited, yet they are given no limits because the exhibition loves them.” (Anna Balážová)
The input by Anna Balážová is a poem narrated by a personal metalanguage. Her installation is a silent dialogue between her and her surroundings. The perception apparatuses are not enough to understand her poetry. Our senses can easily overlook it. It is necessary to perceive it actively, face to face, to refract it through one’s own code system, to assign it with right meanings. The viewer’s attention is a response to emitted signals. The result is not only a formulated personal interpretation but also an encounter of two poetic systems, the author’s and one’s own.
Anna Balážová studies and works in Brno, Czech Republic. She works with image and sound using the animation of drawings, painting and video.
Galerie 1k15 (1k15 Gallery) is a gallery in an architectural module. It started as an artistic project of Katarína Hládeková. It is situated in the “building” tailor-designed by architect Kristína Balážová. Her focus is the presentation of miniatures that also conditions the curatorial choice of selected artists.
Galerie Jádro (Jádro Gallery) is a guest of the exhibition. It started as an apartment gallery focusing on the presentation of established artists. The curatorial conception is, however, flexible, therefore the second cycle of exhibition focused on emerging talents of art scene and the third one on performative events organized as trips and lead by favorite artists. The Jádro Gallery invited Matěj Smetana for the exhibition. Curated by Marie Šindolová and Katarína Hládeková.
