Apocalypse is coming…on 21st of February in Nitra…!
No need to worry. It is just the name of a new exhibition of young artist Ignác Kasan in Gallery for Youth of Nitra gallery.
Ignác Kasan finished the study in the studio of contemporary painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica last year. He is mostly interested in painting, sculpture and graphic art.
The exhibition presents his work that is inspired by biblical text Apocalypse or Revelation of St. John who describes last days and the end of the world and its former accompanying phenomenons. At the exhibition the visitors can see artist´s large-scale paintings, plastic art from plastic foam or works done by special technique – xerox.
The story of Kasan´s Apocalypse takes place in fairy-tale country full of strange creatures, people, animals, monsters, dragons, mysterious scenes and unreal nature. He created the revelations of St. John on the backround of the nature that according to his words he doesn´t draw but „writes as an action“.
Ignác Kasan as a Christian and believer also intensively think about the Last Judgement. He develops the visions of St. John and in his diary´s notes and paintings he makes notes of his own visions. These „visions“ has peculiar comix character that is unconventional in this area of art.
The end of the world means extinction and destruction but also rise of a new and better life. The artist needs to speak about the old but still up-to-date theme with the use of modern art language.
