Information

Besides projects and activities related to fine art, Nitra Gallery also opens its premises to other, non-fine-art media. One of these projects is a series of debates with contemporary Slovak authors that Nitra Gallery started back in 2006. All of the debates in the previous years were moderated by the popular host Dado Nagy.

With financial support of the Slovak Arts Council public funds. The Council is the leading partner of the project.

The summer debates will take place outside on Samova 1. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to Nitra Gallery’s exhibition spaces at Župné námestie.

Summer Debates Schedule:

June 22, 2022, 5pm. — Viliam Klimáček

He originally studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava. After graduating, he worked as a surgeon and anaesthesiologist. However, after nine years of practising medicine, he changed his focus toward theatre. It was in 1985 when he, together with Ivan Mizera, Milan Paštéka and Zuzana Benešová, founded the GUnaGU theatre. He has been its art director, dramaturgist, playwright, director and actor ever since. He also collaborates with other theatres in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He also writes for radio and television. He writes in different genres, including drama, non-fiction, poetry, for children and youth, prose, journalism, radio plays, theatre plays. [1]

July 19, 2022, 5pm — Nicol Hochholczerová

Nicol is an author who belongs to the up-and-coming generation of literary writers. She is originally from Rimavská Sobota and is currently studying at the department of printmaking at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. Her prose has been awarded at various literary competitions like Poviedka [Short Story], Medziriadky [Between the Lines], Literárny Kežmarok [Literary Kežmarok], Kukučínova Revúca [Kukučín’s Revúca] and her book illustrations have been awarded at the Most Beautiful Books of Slovakia competition. Her novel and book debut Táto izba sa nedá zjesť [This Room Can’t Be Eaten] has received several positive reviews. [2]

August 30, 2022, 5pm. — Vanda Rozenbergová 

She studied journalism at the Faculty of Arts at Comenius University in Bratislava. Then she worked as a bibliographer at the Hornonitrianska Library in Prievidza. She is a three-time finalist of the Poviedka [Short Story] competition (2001, 2005, 2006). Her book debut was a collection of short stories titled Vedľajšie účinky chovu drobných hlodavcov [The Side Effects of Breeding Pet Rodents] (2011), followed by a novel titled Moje more [My Sea] (2012). SLOVART published her novels Slobodu bažantom [Freedom to Pheasants] (2015), Muž z jamy a deti z lásky [The Man from the Hole and the Children of Love] (2017), Tri smrtky sa plavia [Three Deaths Are Sailing] (2018) and all of them finished among the top ten at the Anasoft litera competition. In 2021, her self-illustrated book Zjedol som Lautreca [I Ate Lautrec ] was published. [3]
