ACCESS TO THE POOL AND OPENING ONLY IN A SWIMSUIT!

« Then you took me into the bowels of the swimming hall and there you asked me take my swimsuit off … »The exhibition project 100 m2 Breaststroke is the first solo exhibition of Mário Kastelovič. Since several years, he devotes himself to the theme of sports and gradually reveals many problems associated with it. As a former top athlete, he is inspired by his own experiences that he uses as starting blocks and figurative bonds of his artworks. This time, the author reaches for one of his most intimate childhood memories – when he was eight, he was sexually molested by a swim coach in a certain Physical Education Union in Košice. Today, 25 years later, he comes to terms with this daunting experience on an area of 100 m2 by a series of artistic actions that are directly linked to the still vivid memories of the men’s locker room. After some time, Mário Kastelovič asks questions he already once addressed himself, and based on subjective feelings, he generalizes and processes them to wider social issues such as pedophilia, human sexuality, and pornography in the sports culture. The main narrative backbone of the project is the artistically conceived letter – a confession (or response?) addressed to the coach, who is also the only direct witness to this paraphilic act.
